Gates launches PowerGrip® Kit Plus

-- timing belt kit with oil seals, O-rings and/or water pumps --

In order to offer the market complete solutions for belt drive maintenance, Gates is launching an extended version of its PowerGrip® Kits: PowerGrip® Kit Plus.  A PowerGrip® Kit Plus contains oil seal(s), O-rings, water pumps and/or other application specific parts next to the parts of a PowerGrip® Kit.  This way a mechanic has all the components for a complete overhaul right at hand.

Since the lifetime of all components is more or less the same, the best solution to guarantee a perfect and safe performance is to change both belts and metal components at the same time. Therefore Gates offers PowerGrip® kits.  In many cases, replacing only the timing belt, tensioner and pulleys/idlers may not even be sufficient.  Replacing the oil seal(s), the O-rings or other very application-specific parts is critical for a complete overhaul. For those applications, Gates offers the PowerGrip® Kit Plus, an application specific alternative that includes all elements required to service cars in a professional way.

Depending on the application, a PowerGrip® kit Plus contains:
         the timing belt(s)
         the idler(s)
         the belt tensioner units
other parts needed for a complete overhaul (bolts, springs, etc.)
         a mileage sticker

         oil seal(s) and/or
         O-rings and/or
         an application-specific water pump and/or
         other application specific components and/or
         seals and gaskets

Notes :

1.      As supplier to most OEMs world-wide for both drive belts and tensioners, Gates guarantees its PowerGrip® kits include OE-quality products that perfectly match.

2.      The water pump is a vital part of the vehicle’s cooling system.  It delivers a continuous flow of coolant through the radiator and through the engine.  The average water pump handles 1.7 million litres of coolant in about 100,000 kilometres of driving.  Many water pumps are driven by the timing belt.  If the water pump fails, coolant will leak and can contaminate the belt.  Long-term coolant contamination will eventually lead to timing belt failure.  Gates recommends checking the timing belt driven water pump while servicing the timing belt and other drive components and replacing them with OE quality parts.

3.      Just like any other engine component, seals are subject to extreme temperatures and wear.  Oil seals suffer from shaft imperfection, shaft/bore misalignment and shaft movement.  A leaking seal will contaminate the belt and can cause engine damage.
