New Gates Distribution Center in Belgium

After its recent move to new headquarters in Erembodegem, Gates announces the opening of a new Distribution Center in Desteldonk by Gent. Established since 50 years in Europe, the company confirms its strong committment to Belgium and to the Flanders region.

Logistics excellence being an integral part of Gates core business, Gates had investigated in the past months alternative solutions for the physical distribution of the Gates Fluid Power products. Since 2010, this process was fully externalized to a logistics provider and customers were served from a warehouse in the Netherlands.

As a major step in the improvement of the logistics performance of Gates as a company, Gates opted for an internalized solution and will operate a new DC as an extension of the current Gent DC. This transfer will maximize synergies, activities being performed by the Gates staff.

The ‘new’ Gates Distribution Center N.V. is located less than 3 km from the current DC in Desteldonk/Gent and happens to be the ‘old’ Gates DC, used by Gates till 2006. The building is now being refurbished and equipped and will operate in a safe and high modern logistics environment of 9000 m². Gates currently employs around 250 people in the Erembodegem offices and in the existing Gent Distribution Center and this new extension will allow the hiring of 27 new associates.

Gates is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of industrial and automotive belts, hoses, couplings and tensioners. The company enjoys strong market positions and technical leadership across all of its business activities and owns some of the best-known brands in its respective markets. Gates serves customers across a broad range of sectors including oil & gas, mining, processing, construction, agriculture, transportation, automotive and manufacturing.,.
