Gates Hydraulics, FP Division, UK is looking for a:

PRODUCT ENGINEER

Gates Fluid Power Division is a major international company specializing in the production of Hydraulic Hose, Couplings, tube assemblies and hose assemblies   for the industrial markets. Our continuing success has resulted in the following challenging opportunity in our Gates Hydraulics, St. Neots plant.

As a Product Engineer, reporting directly to the CRC Director you are responsible for:

  • Creating and maintaining 2D Detail and Assembly Drawings created from 3D models using CREO (CAD).
  • Development of designs which can be manufactured using Gates current and future processes.
  • Create and update Standards, Specifications and relevant Technical information for Gates products to be manufactured to.  All documentation is created in line with ISO 9001 and other specific International Standards or company directives.
  • Support when required the development of crimp data through crimp trials and manufacturing test samples to be tested in one of Gates Fluid Power (FP) test Labs.  This includes use of Gates self-assembly equipment (Training will be given).
  • Communicate with customers, external suppliers and internal contacts at all levels.  Has regular interface with all other FP disciplines (Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, Testing, Product Management, Sales, Engineering, etc.)  Communication is required with functions in Europe, America and Asia within Global projects.

Travel may be required within the UK and abroad.  The work schedule is flexible to achieve project objectives and may require out of normal hours on occasions.

Undertake training both internally and externally when necessary.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Minimum of HNC or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering and/or relative product knowledge.
  • A strong engineering background and a good knowledge of manufacturing techniques.
  • Experience in creating 2D drawings to British/ISO standards and 3D modelling.
  • A working knowledge of CREO (CAD) and PDM Link would be a great advantage.
  • Knowledge of AS400 would be beneficial but not essential.
  • Knowledge of FP products and capabilities are desired.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, recognise the needs of the customer and manufacturing.
  • Capable of organising and managing own work and projects.  Good presentation skills are considered an advantage.
