Gates Hydraulics, FP Division, UK is looking for a:


Gates Fluid Power Division is a major international company specializing in the production of Hydraulic Hose, Couplings, tube assemblies and hose assemblies   for the industrial markets. Our continuing success has resulted in the following challenging opportunity in our Gates Hydraulics, St. Neots plant.

As a Manufacturing Engineer reporting directly to the Operations Manager you are primarily responsible for:

Define and continually improve the manufacturing processes in place in the facility, as well as running programmes to implement new processes as required on business needs.

Key areas of focus:

  • Supporting HSE&En ensuring all processes comply with company standards for Health, Safety, Environment and Energy Management
  • Driving quality improvement activities with the continuous objective of achieving zero defects in all areas
  • Ensuring production cycle times are clearly understood for all processes and communicated to other areas of the business to support accurate cost analysis and production planning
  • Coordinate MUI improvement programmes
  • Support with commissioning new/upgraded equipment, including control of Process change documentation
  • Develop and maintain standardised work methodology in accordance with current GPS best practice
  • Provide data for the purpose of GPS Metric reporting
  • Develop and maintain tooling registers and support in developing processes to ensure tooling and equipment is maintained in good condition
  • Support commercialisation of new products in manufacturing
  • Support maintenance of PFMEA for production processes
  • Participate in benchmarking activities for manufacturing processes within Gates and elsewhere, as required
  • Provide support to other departments as necessary

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Qualified to HNC/HND level in a directly relevant discipline, coupled with considerable relevant experience in a comparable role
  • Must be able to demonstrate practical application of lean tools and methodologies
  • Formal qualification in Health and Safety Management preferable
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of all lean manufacturing process analysis and measurement systems
  • Good problem solving skills, preferably including experience with DMAIC, Ishikawa and 5 Why
  • Effective Project Management techniques and controls
  • Knowledge of developing and delivering SMART goals and plans to prioritize, organize and accomplish work
  • Self-motivated and an ability to work with minimum supervision
