Wiggins Named CEO of the Gates Group of Companies

Erembodegem, Belgium— Jim Wiggins has been named chief executive officer of The Gates Group of Companies, Denver (Colorado, USA) with immediate effect.

He previously was president of Stant Corporation/Schrader-Bridgeport. In 1993, Wiggins became president and CEO of Schrader-Bridgeport. Following the acquisition of Schrader-Bridgeport by Tomkins PLC, London, in 1998, he also took over responsibility for the Stant companies, which had been purchased by Tomkins in the previous year.

Wiggins will report to David J. Snowdon, COO of Tomkins and Acting CEO of The Gates Group of Companies.

The Gates Group of Companies, consisting of Gates, Stant, Trico and Schrader-Bridgeport, operates more than 80 factories and 20 distribution centers in 19 countries. They are among the world's largest manufacturers of automotive and industrial belts and hoses, engine thermostats, gas and radiator caps, automotive windshield wiping systems and windshield wiper blades and refills, pneumatic and fluid control products, and tire valves and hardware. Approximately 24,000 people work for the organization.

Sales for The Gates Group of Companies amounted to over $2.8 billion in fiscal 1998-99. They are owned by Tomkins PLC, a major British public company, headquartered in London. Tomkins owns more than 70 operating companies and employs more than 66,000 people around the world. The majority of its $8.4 billion in sales are generated in North America.
