Gates belt drive systems are specified by OEMs around the world, which enables Gates to provide OE-equivalent products to the automotive aftermarket. Today one notices a tendency within the automotive industry to replace mechanical systems with electric motor systems driven with small belts. Examples of this type of application are seat and mirror adjusters, window regulators, seat belt tighteners and many others. Gates is also a major supplier of belts to the motorcycle market. It all started in the 80s, when the world famous motorcycle manufacturer, Harley-Davidson, decided to equip its motorcycles with Gates’ first generation of Poly Chain® polyurethane synchronous belts achieving low speeds at high torque. Through the years, Gates has also become an important supplier to numerous scooter manufacturers, such as Peugeot MTC.
