Brand new and high-tech in OE, already available for the aftermarket: Gates flexible couplings

Erembodegem - Through the use of new technologies and materials Gates continuously develops its power transmission products.  Close partnership with the VW company led to the application of Gates flexible couplings on the Volkswagen 5 cylinder engine.  In order to ensure the latest OE technologies are quickly available to the aftermarket, Gates introduces the EuroGrip® flexible couplings now for the replacement market. 

As engine technology trends are continually driven by fuel economy, emission controls and package reductions, Gates has responded with a new product type, the Gates automotive EuroGrip® flexible coupling.  Based on years of experience of under-bonnet materials, a rubber sleeve and end piece system is designed to transmit torque to drive engine accessories, such as the alternator, power steering pump or air conditioning compressor, and to damp vibrations between two connected shafts.  EuroGrip® flexible couplings are especially recommended for applications where these two shafts are subject to misalignment and axial movement, and they relieve the stress that would result from a rigid coupling.  The first Gates couplings in automotive applications are used on VW engines.  

Research and thorough testing of EuroGrip® couplings on a number of Volkswagen car engines took about 1.5 years. The EuroGrip® coupling proved to be the perfect solution for compensating misalignment and axial movement on the VW engines.  The superior durability of Gates EuroGrip® flexible couplings versus competitive alternatives was the decisive factor for installing the Gates coupling on the Volkswagen 5 cylinder engine.  Also for the V10 engine type, Volkswagen opted for EuroGrip® because of its outstanding NVH characteristics (Noise, Vibration and Harshness).  Two couplings per engine are used: one EuroGrip® coupling drives the alternator, the other drives the air conditioning compressor.

Gates now introduces the couplings to the aftermarket.  The EG1 flexible coupling sleeves fit following applications:
